Each of the past nine years the Pope John Paul II High School Math Club has competed in the Florida Math League. The Math League is dedicated to bringing challenging mathematics materials to students. The Math League specializes in math contests, books, and computer software designed to stimulate interest and confidence in mathematics for students from the 4th grade through high school. Over 1 million students participate in Math League contests each year. Membership in the Math League is open to all secondary schools. Over the course of the school year, there are six contests held over a six month time period. All contests are held on individual school campuses. For each contest, the top 5 scores from the school count as the school’s score. Each contest has 6 questions and a time limit of 30 minutes. All of the contest problems are designed to cover a range of mathematical knowledge for each grade level and require no additional knowledge of mathematics beyond the grade level they test. Eighty-five Pope John Paul II High School pre-calculus and calculus students competed during the 2009-2010 school year. The Math Club is proud to announce that Pope John Paul II High School has finished in the top 3 in Palm Beach County each of the last eight years!
