School History and Affiliations
The construction of Pope John Paul II High School was begun in February 1980. The first classes were held the following August. The first year the school consisted of 300 freshmen and 150 sophomore students. The second year classes were held for freshmen, sophomores and juniors. The third year 1982-1983, was the first year as a four-year high school and saw the first graduating class. Originally, the school operated as part of the Archdiocese of Miami. However, in 1984 the school became part of the newly formed Diocese of Palm Beach. The diocese oversees sixteen elementary schools and three high schools in Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River counties. The diocese provides leadership and educational requirements for all nineteen schools. All administrative personnel of all diocesan schools attend regular monthly meetings for the purpose of curriculum updates, calendar items and other important issues. There is also regular communication between the Pope John Paul II High School administrative staff and diocesan officials concerning the school's operation. School personnel, students, and families often participate in other diocesan program and Church membership. A Catholic, co-educational institution, Pope John Paul II High School has been fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools since 1984. Additionally, the school holds membership in the National Catholic Education Association, National Education Association, Florida Catholic Conference, Florida High School Activities Association, National Association of Secondary Schools Principals, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the National Honor Society of Secondary Schools. As Pope John Paul II entered into the twentieth century growth on campus began, in the year 2000 we added a state-of-the-art Media Research Center, in the summer of 2002 we opened a new Administration/Student Services Building and in 2004 our third wing was added to the school bringing state-of the art Science Labs, Music wing and classrooms.
