25th Anniversary Celebration
Pope John Paul II High School proudly celebrated 25 years of Catholic education during the 2005-2006 school year. The school opened its doors to freshmen and sophomores for the 1980-1981 school year and on February 1, 1981 a dedication ceremony and blessing of the buildings took place at the school with Bishop John Nevins presiding. It seemed only fitting that the 25th anniversary celebration take place almost twenty five years to the day of the dedication. On January 30, 2006, Bishop Gerald Barbarito joined the John Paul II community for a 25th Anniversary Mass. Students, parents, teachers, alumni, alumni parents, benefactors and friends of Pope John Paul II High School came together in the gymnasium to celebrate the many blessings on the school over the past twenty five years and prayed for continued blessings in the future. Following the Mass a reception was held in the Media Center for guests. It was followed by a special luncheon with the Bishop and administration of the school. Students were involved in the celebration as well, student council hosted an appreciation breakfast for teachers and the administration treated the students to anniversary cake during lunch one day. The festivities culminated with a night filled with fun for the whole family on Saturday, February 4, 2006. Students, parents, teachers, alumni, alumni parents, and friends of Pope John Paul II High School filled the cafetorium and celebrated the "birthday" of our high school. The evening included dinner, a disc jockey, a bake-off, games and even caricatures of the guests as a memento of the evening. Our theme for the year was 25 Years of Education, Faith. Family. Service. These three simple words sum up the character behind our mission of education. John Paul II is a high school community with a spiritual foundation in our Catholic Faith, supported by dedicated Families and committed to Service putting our faith into action. |
